Local business travel

Choosing to walk or cycle to or from meetings is good exercise. It can also substantially reduce your journey time as the route is often much more direct than the alternative vehicle route.

Oxford is not a campus university. To plan your quickest route for meetings in Oxford’s colleges, halls, departments, libraries and museums view the Oxford University searchable map.

You can also use Google Maps to find your way around Oxford on foot.

Bike sharing and e-Scooters

Bike sharing is a great solution to business travel needs around the city and something we promote as much as possible to staff.

Pool Bikes

Some departments have pool bikes that you can use for attending meetings in other University buildings. Ask your manager or Departmental Administrator for details.

If your department does not currently have a scheme and you want to set one up please visit Green Travel Fund for more information or contact the Travel Team for advice at travel@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Claim your mileage

Do you know that University staff can claim mileage if using their own bike?

For more reasons to get on your bike at work please visit our Cycling pages.

Oxford Bus Company & Thames Travel Corporate Account

Your department can open a corporate account and order key cards for travel on all Oxford Bus Company & Thames Travel buses including the Science Shuttle. These key cards can be used as pool cards to be borrowed as required or issued to individuals who travel frequently. The key card will be scanned each time it is used for travel and the department will only be charged for journeys travelled. Submit your request to open a corporate account.

Pre-paid annual bus passes

Your department can purchase annual pre-paid SmartZone passes for use as pool cards on all Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach buses in Oxford. These cards are usually kept at the reception desk of your building and borrowed as required. If you would like to know more about these bus passes please email travel@admin.ox.ac.uk
